Learn to handstand

Handstands in Copenhagen: Class or course? Let’s explore the benefits of both

Slamming your hands down and throwing your legs up praying for the best isn’t an ideal way to practice handstands. Yes, you can learn to stand on your hands. No, you don’t need to be fearless or strong to begin. You just need a little curiosity and somewhere safe to try. Whether you choose a handstand class or course, these sessions are for anyone who wants to explore the art of handstanding.

What is a handstand class?

This class is focused, fun and surprisingly grounded. We don’t just throw ourselves into the air and hope for the best. We build handstands step by step with guidance, strength drills, technique, and plenty of time on the mat. We begin with a smart warm-up, prepping shoulders, wrists, and core. Then we break down the shapes, the entries, the exits. We work with walls. With props. With breath. We learn how to fall safely and how to find that magical moment of balance.

Why choose the handstand course?

Through these bundle sessions, you’ll get a clearer understanding of where you are in your handstand journey, what might be holding you back, and how to practice more effectively to overcome those roadblocks and keep progressing. Each session, we’ll dive into a specific aspect of handstands. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice you'll uncover the different layers of handstands, both in your mind and in your body. By the end of the course, you can expect to leave with a clear roadmap towards improving your handstand practice, with specific exercises, perspective, and focus points matching your needs and goals.

Why handstand?

Because it teaches more than just being upside down. Handstands build body awareness, patience, encourages playfulness and confidence. They ask you to engage fully and not just physically, but mentally too. You’ll learn to trust your body. To fail a little. To laugh. To focus. And eventually, to fly. It’s not about staying in the air. It’s about showing up to the practice. Again and again.

Our way at kailo

Our teachers know that progress is personal. They’ll offer you clear cues, help you troubleshoot your technique, and cheer you on through the wobbles. It’s not about ego. It’s about learning to feel at home upside down. Handstand, like play and yoga, is less about the final result and more about the journey itself. These sessions are all about the journey. At the end of each session, you’ll walk away with drills to reinforcing the day’s learning during the week. Rest assured, we’ll keep a comfortable rhythm with plenty of time to feel and explore.

Are handstands for you?

Whether you’ve never tried a handstand before or you’ve been practicing for a while and want to refine your form, this is a space for you. Maybe you’re working toward freestanding balance, or maybe you just want to build a stronger foundation — either way, you don’t need to be able to kick up. You just need to be open to giving it a try. Chances are, you’re more ready than you think. Come by, see what it’s about, and let us guide you from your first wrist warm-up to that first thrilling moment of lift.

How to do a handstand

It’s not about being fearless. It’s about being patient.

  1. Start Low
You don’t need to kick up right away. Begin by getting comfortable upside down. Try walking your feet up a wall. Feel how it is to have weight in your hands. Let your wrists and shoulders get used to the load.
  2. Build Strength from the Ground Up
Handstands ask a lot from your body. But you can build it slowly.
Core, shoulders, wrists—these are your anchors. Plank holds, hollow body shapes, wall drills. Tiny things that lead to big shifts.
  3. Learn to Fall
Falling is part of it. It’s not failure. It’s feedback.
We’ll teach you how to exit safely. How to roll out or cartwheel down. Once you know you can fall without fear, you’re already halfway there.
  4. Use the Wall
The wall is your friend. Face it. Turn away from it. Hover near it. It helps you find alignment, control, and confidence. Let it support you while your body learns to balance.
  5. Breathe. Stay Kind. Try Again.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. Some days you float. Some days you don’t leave the ground. Either way, you’re practicing. And that matters most.
