Yin yoga at Kailo

Your practice of stillness & surrender

Yin is where we slow down. Where we let go of trying to fix, improve or push. Instead, we breathe, we soften, and we practice the art of letting go. At Kailo, our Yin classes are quiet spaces where you get to meet yourself just as you are. There are no dynamic movements and usually no standing postures, the strength is cultivated within ourselves. The key to practicing yin yoga is finding stillness.

Why Yin?

Life moves fast. Often too fast. Yin gives us time. Time to feel. Time to listen. Time to let things settle. In a world that pulls us outward, Yin invites us inward. We land on the mat, melt into the floor, and start to notice the quieter parts of ourselves. The ones that don’t always get heard. It’s not about getting somewhere. It’s about being with what is already here.

What is Yin yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow, grounded practice where we stay in each pose for several minutes at a time. Most of the postures happen close to the ground. With support from blankets, bolsters or blocks, we allow the body to release layer by layer. We’re not trying to stretch muscles, we’re working with the deeper tissues: fascia, joints, ligaments. But the physical is just one part. Yin is also a space for reflection. A place where thoughts slow down. Where breath becomes steady. Where we don’t need to solve anything, just be with what arises.

Why practice Yin yoga?

At Kailo, we believe that stillness is powerful. Yin can offer us increased flexibility and joint mobility, nervous system regulation, mental clarity, emotional release, a space to reflect and breathe deeply. It’s a beautiful practice to balance the more active forms of movement and the often yang-dominated lifestyle we're accustomed to.

Our approach at kailo

Yin at Kailo is gentle, but deep. Simple, but never shallow. Our teachers hold space with care and presence, offering options and support for whatever kind of day you're having. You don’t have to know anything beforehand. There are no expectations. Sometimes we weave in themes from Traditional Chinese Medicine or the elements. Other times, we just stay quiet. Either way, we let the practice unfold naturally, without rush. We trust that the body knows the way.

What to expect

In a typical Yin class, you’ll move through just a handful of poses. We stay in each for 2 to 7 minutes. You’ll likely spend most of the class lying down or sitting, supported by props as needed. You may feel sensations in your body—some familiar, others surprising. You might feel emotion surface. You might feel nothing at all. Everything is welcome. The room is calm. The light is soft. There is space to feel what needs to be felt.

Is Yin yoga right for me?

Yin yoga can be a nourishing practice for anyone seeking stillness, reflection, and a deeper connection with themselves. If you lead a busy, yang-style life, Yin offers the perfect counterbalance. Unlike more dynamic yoga styles, Yin invites you to slow down and soften into longer-held postures. It can be especially supportive if you’re feeling overwhelmed, tight, or simply in need of a pause. You don’t need to be flexible or experienced—just open to meeting yourself where you are, with patience and care. Yin has a quiet wisdom—it often gives us what we didn’t even know we needed, making it a beautiful practice for most.

The kailo yoga experience

We’ve created a studio with the intention of making it feel like a home. Soft lighting. Quiet corners. Teachers who care for your practice. Yin was the energy in mind, when we created our physical space. It’s part of our wider intention—to offer not just classes, but a rhythm you can return to. Yin classes run regularly throughout the week, and sometimes we offer special events with themes, journaling, or live music. You’re always welcome. Alongside weekly classes, we also host seasonal Elemental Yin events and advanced Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings for those who want to dive deeper into this practice.

Curious to feel it for yourself?
