Rocket yoga: "It gets you there faster"

A little rebellious, and a lot of play

Rocket is for the brave and the curious. The ones who want to move big and breathe deep. It’s for you, if you’re ready to try. Ready to flip things upside down and leave the room feeling empowered. At Kailo, Rocket is where power meets play. Where challenge is welcomed, but perfection isn’t expected. It’s about trying and enjoying the journey. It’s bold, but never rigid. Playful, but never careless.

Why Rocket?

Because moving can feel alive. Because challenge doesn’t have to be harsh. Because it’s fun to surprise yourself. Rocket Yoga was created for people who love structure but need space to breathe within it. It’s inspired by Ashtanga but gives you more freedom with its variations, creativity and playfulness. There’s a rhythm to it, but also freedom to move in your own way. You’ll work hard. But you’ll also feel supported. And a little bit wild.

What is Rocket yoga?

Rocket yoga offers a dynamic and invigorating style of yoga developed in the late 1980s in San Francisco. Rocket is inspired by Ashtanga yoga but the sequence is modified in order to make “advanced” postures more accessible. Rocket also breaks free from Ashtanga method as it incorporates more playfulness and creativity. The practice is quite consistent across each class, which begins with sun salutations before moving on to standing and seated postures, including inversions, arm balances and funky transitions. Variations and modifications will be offered throughout the class so you can playfully grow at your pace. Some Rocket classes follow a 4-Beat structure, where movement follows the beat of the music. Not rushed. Not wild. Just steady and focused. Like a heartbeat.

Our way of teaching

We don’t believe in yoga as a performance. And we don’t believe in pushing for the sake of pushing. At Kailo, we teach Rocket with skill, care and curiosity. Our teachers know when to challenge you and when to ease off. You’ll be offered options throughout the class, but also quickly get familiar with the semi-set sequence that the practice offers. You’ll be guided safely, with plenty of room for exploration. We’ll encourage steady challenges, but equally support it, when you listen, and choose less.

What to expect

Rocket is a strong practice. Not for total beginners. We recommend you’ve taken a few Vinyasa classes first, so you know your way around a chaturanga and a down dog. If you already have a steady practice, you’re good to go. You don’t need to be able to do handstands or splits. You just need to be open and ready to dive in the deeper end. Expect to move, sweat, and sometimes be a little out of breath. Expect moments of stillness too. And a chance to notice how far you’ve come. Every class is different. Every body is different. Even with the slight bit of consistency across the classes, you'll notice every practice is different. That’s the beauty of it.

Is Rocket yoga for me?

This class is not for beginner yogis, we encourage you to delve into our Vinyasa classes first. But if you’re looking for movement with heat and heart. If you like to be challenged gently and you want a space where you can try something new, without pressure. Then maybe this is the one.

The kailo yoga experience

Kailo is not about proving anything. We’re not chasing shapes or ticking off goals. We’re creating space for strength and softness. For the strange and the wonderful. And all the in betweens. It’s strong, yes. But also steady. There’s room for laughter and play, to fall out of a pose and try again.
