Basic: your beginner-friendly yoga class

Carefully led with workshop vibes

Our Basic class is for anyone new to yoga, or for those who want to slow down and reconnect with the foundation. A place to ask questions. To laugh. To wobble. And to learn the basic shapes and terms that all other classes are built from.

Is Basic a beginner yoga class?

Yes! And a little bit more. This is our special beginner-friendly class with space to breathe, ask questions and be extra curious. You may even have attended several yoga classes before but wish to deepen your understanding of the basic poses, breath or yoga terms. Each week we explore different topics such as inversions, warriors, balance, backbends and more. We take time. We go slow. We build from the ground up. It’s not about getting it “right.” It’s about understanding your body, the practice and the multitudes of ways it can be adjusted to make it feel safe and possible to you.

Why begin here?

Walking into a new space, with new people and a new practice can feel intimidating — even scary — for many. We've all been there in some area of life! But every practice has a beginning, and we're here to support your yoga journey in the most inclusive space we can create. Basic isn't only for beginners, it's for anyone seeking depth and simplicity. These classes are where questions are part of the practice. Where you can wobble, fall out, try again, and be cheered on through it all. You’ll build a solid foundation and a deeper understanding of the "whys," getting you ready to explore other classes — if and when you wish.

If you are new to yoga, here are a few tips to get you started:

• You don’t need to be flexible. It's a wonderful outcome of a consistent practice — but not the goal of yoga!
• Wear something comfy. Anything you can move and breathe in is perfect. No special gear needed.
• Use props. Blocks, blankets and straps are your friends. They help support your practice and make shapes more accessible.
• Ask questions. This is your space. Our teachers are here to help, and no question is too small.
•  Take breaks. Rest when you need to, and allow the nervous system to follow along. Child’s Pose is always an option.
• Focus on your breath. Let it guide you. It’s more important than touching your toes.
• Come as you are. Seriously. Tired, nervous, curious, excited — all of you is welcome.

What to expect

You’ll be welcomed in. Given props, a mat if you need one, and a moment to land.
You’ll be guided through essential poses with attention to alignment, breath and stability. We move slowly, with breaks to explain and explore. We’ll use props, adjust the pace, and tailor things to who’s in the room. One week we might focus on standing postures. Another week, breathwork. Another, transitions and flow. The class evolves, just like your practice. Expect foundational poses like Mountain, Down Dog, Warrior, and Child’s Pose. Expect props, clear guidance, and options to pause or modify whenever you need to.

Our way at Kailo

We don’t expect you to know anything before you arrive. That’s what the class is for. We care more about how guiding from a place of sensation, rather than looks. The practice of yoga is not to impress, it's a continuous practice of exploration. It's a practice for learning, for trying, and for meeting yourself without expectations and judgement.
