Backbends & Devotion
20hr advanced teacher training

A Yoga teacher training focussing on a multifaceted experiential and personal progression in Backbending postures and movements - layered with the philosophical and vibrational significance of the heart and spine from a yogic perspective.

A training for people looking to dedicate time and awareness around spinal movements and inner discoveries when moving through stagnated areas. You do not need to have extremely flexibility to join this training, all you need is curiosity and willingness to move your spine.

Physical backbending is about strengthening the whole backside body and opening of the frontside. Through the strength, backbending increases mobility in your spine, build flexibility over time, steadiness, power and movement intelligence.

Backbends stretches the entire front body, in particular areas where many experience more or less restriction, like guards, hip flexor area, abdomen, chest and shoulders. Especially opening the area around the chest can have many benefits for the heart and its beating mechanism and furthermore promote more elasticity in the lungs, so breathing is experienced with more ease and depth.

Though backbends in general has a more direct connection with igniting the sympathetic nerve system response, backbend-focussed practice also has an overall balancing effects for the nerve-system, creating overall balance for your wellbeing. As many modern living humans lives a life in a lot forward bending postures and activities, backbends help balance the entire body structure, as well as stretching around and making more space and ease internal systems to move and function to their best ability.

Backbending is also known to “reverse" aging signs of the body by strengthening the entire backside body which can weaken with age and/or due to a forward-bending lifestyle. Aging of intervertebral discs involves a natural loss of fluid, making them less effective as cushions and more susceptible to damage (disc degeneration). Besides many common health upholders like hydration, proper sleep and food, how to prevent this decrease in the fluid content the discs require motion to pump waste products out, and healthy fluid in making spinal movements some of the best thing you can do for yourself to enjoy your body throughout life.

In an energetic and spiritual perspective the heart is the centre of love and compassion and the throat is the centre of expression, communication and truth. Opening these areas requires and / or can help build courage and vulnerability. Not only is it important to practice with compassion, but you will also tune in with expansion of this quality through the practice. Backbends evolves the emotional heart as well as connecting and becoming more aware of the spiritual heart - the house for the inner Self. Gradually as the heart and throat centres opens it can have extremely freeing / liberating effects.

We will also connect to the heart and throat with chants. Chanting / singing with devotion and from a place of sharing the best with each other is a direct easy-access effort to vibrate and tune with the subtle layers of existence. It will heighten the sensitivity and awareness of how you move and how you connect to your inner self, which according to yogis is located in the heart, which all the backbends will open space for.

Laura kailo yoga teacher training

Laura (@laurajervidalo) has been practicing yoga her whole life, starting from her mother’s belly. She grew up in a yoga school in Copenhagen, where yoga was a natural and integrated part of everyday living. She began teaching out of a desire to serve her community and to share the knowledge she has discovered through her own journey.

In her physical teaching, Laura focuses on the relationship between strength and flexibility to bring balance to the body. Equally important to her is the incorporation of all eight limbs of Yoga, which she believes holistically support longevity in both outer and inner health. By balancing the physical body, she prepares students for stillness and silence, creating space for deeper discoveries in subtler realms - encouraging sensitivity and a heightened enjoyment of existence.

Laura hopes to guide her students toward a deeper understanding of their inner Self. She has completed advanced teacher training in Dharma Yoga, Rocket Vinyasa Yoga, and Backbending, accumulating over 1,000 hours of certified training.
